NOCELLA BACK IN VICTORY LANE
WITH BEECH RIDGE VMRS WIN

Anthony Nocella, of Woburn, Massachusetts, outraced fog and a strong finish from a late charging Troy Talman, of Oxford, MA, to capture his fourth win of the season Saturday night, August 19, in Valenti Modified Racing Series action at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough, Maine. The win came in a 75-lap main event.

The win was also Nocella’s second consecutive at Beech Ridge and 10th career win tying him with Rowan Pennink on the series all-time win list.

Nocella’s last win was June 24th at New London-Waterford, CT.

Pole Sitter Tony Ricci, of Westbrook, ME, jumped into an early lead wheeling the Czarnecki # 20 car out of Springfield, MA, with Donnie Lashua, of Canaan, NH, and Josh Cantara, of Alfred, ME, in pursuit.

Cantara moved to second following an early race re-start and the two Maine drivers (Ricci & Cantara) brought the hometown crowd alive with side-by-side racing swapping the lead a handful of times.

A lap-48 caution restart provided a fast closing Nocella, who started 5th in an 18-car field to roll by Ricci, and the series point leader was never headed.

“It feels pretty awesome – we started out the year so good and we had a couple of rough races. We knew this was a track we could do it at. We needed to back here knowing how good we have been here the last couple of years. We had just as good of a car as the last time.”

Nocella spoke of the competition.” Tough there for awhile. Tony was fast there. Tried to keep him in my sight and slowly gain on him. On that restart with 30-laps to go I knew it was time to go and get by him and try to hold him off. The fog rolling in – didn’t want the race shortened and be stuck in second. Got to thank him (Ricci) for running us clean.”

For Talman it was another strong run after his first series win at Lee, NH, last month. Talman started ninth and became a contender at the end. Ricci held on for his best finish since his two series wins in 2006, Andy Shaw, of Center, Conway, NH, finished fourth from his 18th starting position, and Mike Willis. Jr, of Grantham, NH, wheeled his new Troyer car to a fifth place finish.

Lashua, Sammy Rameau, Derek Robbie, Matt Mead, and Dylan Rock rounded out the top ten.
