ERIC BEERS BREAKS THE ICE IN VICTORY FOLLOWING
FERRIS MOWERS RACE OF CHAMPIONS ASPHALT SERIES
FUELED BY SUNOCO OPENER AT MAHONING VALLEY SPEEDWAY |
 The
Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by
Sunoco kicked off the season Saturday at the Mahoning Valley
Speedway in Lehighton, Pennsylvania with the running of the
Break-the-Ice 75 on the competitive quarter-mile. When the checkered
flag fell Eric Beers of Northampton, Pennsylvania took home the
laurels. Beers, who is ranked in the top-five on the all-time Race
of Champions wins list and is Mahoning Valley’s all-time win leader,
added the prestigious triumph to his resume.
“This was just a great night for us,” stated Beers after holding off
a late race charge from Matt Hirschman. “Driving for Dave and Laura
DeLange has been a great fit for me and we’re are just having a lot
of fun right now. Matt (Hirschman) gave us all he had, but he ran us
clean and I respect him for that. It’s great to be back in victory
lane. We’re off to a great start and hopefully we can keep the ball
rolling.”
Hirschman of Northampton as well and the 2015 Series Champion came
home second, followed by Mahoning standout, Kris Graver. Don Wagner
and Chuck Hossfeld rounded out the top-five.
Patrick Emerling set the fastest time during the group time trials,
while Beers, Wagner, Earl Paules and Jimmy Zacharias won the
qualifying races. Austin Kochenash won the B-Main.
The next event for the Race of Champions is Sunday, May 1 at the
Chemung Speedrome in Chemung, New York.
