MAHONING VALLEY SPEEDWAY POSTPONES OPENER
DUE TO COLD WEATHER FORECAST

Mahoning Valley Speedway management in conjunction with Race of Champions officials have announced that this coming Saturday’s season opener for the “Break-The-Ice-75” featuring the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series Fueled by Sunoco has been postponed until Saturday, April 23 at 6:00 pm.

With the outlook for Saturday’s temperature reaching no higher than the mid-30s according to a variety of weather forecasts, it was determined that in the best interest of fans, teams and track personnel to push back the race to the make-up date of April 23.

“We feel this is the right call at this time,” said Mahoning Valley Speedway promoter Floyd Santee. “With all of the input we have been getting for this race there is no sense in trying to make it work when every weather report we looked at all says how chilly it will be.

“We know we can take the chance and run the show but we owe to our fans and all of the teams, both ours and those who are traveling from out of the area, to present a great show and that’s what we plan to do only it will be two weeks away instead. We are all better off safe than sorry,” he added.

Although the speedway will not be having any features this Saturday, they have opted to hold another testing day. From noon to 4:00 pm the track will be open to any teams who would like to utilize that time to get in one final full day of practice. It will be $25 per car and $10 per person for the pits. Grandstands are free.

Opening Day now moves to Saturday, April 16 with a 6:00 pm start time slated. On the card will be all six track classes including Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks plus the Micro Stocks. This is also race number one of the six race American Rental Street Stock Gamblers Series.

The April 23 winner of the Break-The-Ice-75 will earn $2800, $1500 for second and $200 to take the green. 26 cars will qualify for the feature. All others, provided there are 40 cars, will then compete in the $800 to win 30-lap B-main.
