VALENTI MODIFIED RACING SERIES MOVES ON TO STAFFORD FRIDAY

After a three week layoff following the first race of the new season at Monadnock Speedway in New Hampshire, the Valenti Modified Racing Series heads to the famed Stafford Motor Speedway, Stafford Springs, Connecticut, Friday May 20.

The series will compete in an 80-lap feature race.

Reigning series champion, Woody Pitkat, of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, leads the list of entries for the first of three scheduled events this season at the historical half-mile.

Pitkat won his two series races last season at Stafford. He is driving this year for Dan Stebbins, a long-time racer turned car-owner. Pitkat finished 8th in the season opener at Monadnock.

Long time veteran driver-car owner Charlie Pasteryak, of Lisbon, CT, is an expected entry. The 31-year veteran will be driving a Troyer car driven by his son Chris last season. The 5CT is two years old. Chris drives a brand new Troyer mount (15CT) that he landed in victory lane in the Monadnock opener.

After steering Chris to a pair of championships with brother Carl, Charlie chooses races on the schedule to stay active as a driver and after 30-years, he still likes the thrill of driving modified race cars.

“After a week at work (paving business) driving these cars is the most fun you can have. There is nothing like sitting behind the wheel of one of these things. The series is fun and to me it’s a relaxing day.”

Second-generation driver Dan Meservey Jr. will make his first start of the season at Stafford. The Brewster, MA, veteran is seeking his first career VMRS win.

Mike Willis Jr , of Grantham, NH, 2014 Rookie of the Year ,will compete in Friday’s program. Willis had a series best finish last September with a solid third-place finish. Willis. Jr intends to run the entire schedule in 2016.

Matt Mead, of Richmond, NH, who suffered a damaged race car after a bout with a Monadnock Speedway safety barrier, says the car “is almost back together and we’ll be at Stafford.” Mead and car-owner Ron Townson are seeking their first win.

Former series champion Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley PA , David Schneider, of Northport, NY, and Carl Medeiros, of Westport, MA, are expected entries.

VMRS qualifying races begin at 6:15 PM
