As we get to that time of the year where we like to reflect and
contemplate things I thought it might be beneficial to explore a few
questions about Christianity and what we believe. This will be a good way
for us all to have a basic understanding of the Christian life we desire to
live. Greeting in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Many of you are in the disassemble/reassemble process. For some, your race
car is just a pile of parts in the shop. For others it is coming back
together with the anticipation of new races to run. Let’s do the same with
our understanding of Christianity and why we believe the way we do.
Please understand this is not an exhaustive exploration of everything we
believe, but a few weeks where we will address some of the basic beliefs we
hold. This should help those who have questions and also encourage us as we
strive to honor God.
As I thought through the questions we should cover the big three came to
mind; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Also the questions of doubt came to mind.
How can I know God exists? Is Jesus the right way to God? Can God really
forgive all I have done? How is this relevant to the life we live today?
There are many more questions we have, but doubt is something that is in
us all. Knowing the answers from the only reliable source will help firm up
our faith and give us the encouragement we need to live a life that honors
God.
Maybe the place to start is this question; how do we know what source
will lead us to the truth? In all the decision making we do we rely on
several sources for input; things we have been taught, things we have
experienced and things we understand. There is one more source but it isn’t
sought out as much, God and His Word.
Let’s take a minute and explore the process of decision making. We all
have our favorite sources of authority. When I have a house question I call
my friend the builder. When I have a car question, I stop by and see my
friend who run a garage. When I need legal advice I call my lawyer. Pretty
simple, we all have similar ways of getting to a solution we trust.
What about life questions? Where do we go when we have questions about
life and how to live it? Some of us go to the same sources mentioned above,
but let me suggest another, better source, the creator of life himself, God.
Who should know more about how to live the most filling, satisfying and best
life than the creator of life himself?
God said to the prophet Jeremiah;
Jeremiah 1:5; “I
knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the
nations.”
Psalm 139 explains that God know everything about us, if fact, He
knitted us together in our mother’s womb. Take some time this week and look
up Psalm 139, read it and come to understand that God know each one of us
better than we know ourselves. Who better to turn to then when we need
guidance and direction?
Many of the sources we use to answer our questions and solve our problems
we turn to because they are “experts”, they know things that we don’t. They
understand things that we don’t. They have experiences that we haven’t had.
All good reasons to seek them out for answers, but allow me to give this
advice, God is the only true source of authority.
In the weeks to come we will explore how we make decisions, what we use
for guidance and how we might be better off is we seek the answer to our
life questions from the creator of life Himself.
Feel free to ask if you have a question. Send in any questions you might
have. We may address them here in the column or through more private
channels. As always we are here to serve you.
Psalm 139:1-6, just the first part, there are 24 verses in God’s word.
1 O Lord, you have
examined my heart
and know everything about me.
2 You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
3 You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.
4 You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
5 You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!
I am looking forward to this journey with you, please make a point of
staying with us as we explore some Questions & Answers.
