TROYER RACE CARS TO SPONSOR CONTINGENCY AWARDS FOR
TONY JANKOWIAK/TOMMY DRUAR MEMORIAL 125 AT US OPEN |
The
leader in building chassis and parts for asphalt Modifieds has
stepped up in support of the Tony Jankowiak/Tommy Druar Memorial
125, as part of the US Open at Lancaster Speedway.
Troyer Race Cars of Rochester, NY has donated two $500 gift
certificates that will be given away as contingency awards for the
Race of Champions Modified Tour 125-lap event to be held on Sunday,
September 21. The gift certificates can be used on parts and
services available at the Troyer shop located at 4555 Lyell Rd. in
Rochester.
The first certificate will be awarded to the driver running in third
place on the 37th lap of the feature. The second one will be given
to the driver running in seventh on the 73rd lap. The lap numbers
were chosen in honor of Tommy Druar and Tony Jankowiak, who raced
cars numbered 37 and 73 respectively. Both drivers called Lancaster
Speedway their home track until their lives were cut short behind
the wheel in separate crashes.
Troyer Race Cars was established in 1977 and builds Modified chassis
for both asphalt and dirt cars. Owner, Bill Colton, has had a long
relationship with Lancaster Speedway going back to his days as a
driver in the 1970s &1980s. Bill’s father was also a long-time
supporter of the speedway as a sponsor and car owner. The elder
Colton was also one of the driving forces behind developing the
soft-wall technology that is used at Lancaster to protect drivers
from the concrete walls during a crash.
The 26th annual US Open begins on Friday, September 19 with a
practice session followed by the US Open Kickoff Party in the
speedway concourse. Pit gates will open at 4 PM on Friday with
practice taking place from 6-10 PM. All divisions except the
Modifieds and TQ Midgets will run heats on Saturday evening followed
by features for the 4-Cylinders, Legends and Sportsman. The night
will be capped off by a fantastic fireworks display provided by
Gisbon including a special tribute to Tony Jankowiak and Tommy
Druar. Racing on Sunday will begin with Modified and TQ Midgets
heats followed by the remaining features including the 125-lap main
event for the Race of Champions Modified Tour.
