RACE OF
CHAMPIONS ASPHALT MODIFIED TOUR 100

The
Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour is set to return to the
Chemung Speedrome this Saturday night for a huge 100 lap event. All
of the cars and stars of the RoC Asphalt Modified Tour will be
joined by a full evening of NASCAR Weekly Racing Series competition.
Qualifying heat racing gets underway at 6 p.m. The RoC Modified 100
is expected to start no later than 9 p.m.
Two-time Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour Point Champion
Chuck Hossfeld leads the tour in to Chemung this Saturday night.
Hossfeld, from Ransomville, NY has two feature wins on the 2014 tour
including two of the last three events. In May Hossfeld was the
runner-up at the Chemung Speedrome to Matt Hirschman.
Hirschman, from Northampton, PA started off the season with three
consecutive victories and is currently in second in the point
standings. Hirschman a six-time RoC Tour Champion trails Hossfeld by
only 32 markers entering this Saturday night’s event. The duo of
Hossfeld and Hirschman have been a sometimes bitter rivalry over the
past several years and the two are expected again to be factors in
the RoC 100 on Saturday. Hirschman is also a back to back winner of
the Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 held at the Oswego
Speedway. The 64th edition of that race will occur on September 14th
in Oswego, NY.
RoC Modified Tour Rookie Andy Jankowiak from Cheektowaga, NY is
currently third in the point standings. He also recorded a victory
in the Holland Speedway 100 back in early July in front of his home
town fans. Mike Leaty accounts for the other feature win this season
on the Tour. Like Jankowiak, Leaty recorded his victory in front of
his hometown fans at the Spencer Speedway in Williamson, NY.
Championship points will be on the line for this event which will
add to the importance of a solid finish.
Local drivers will be looking to make their impact this Saturday.
Daren Scherer and Bryan Sherwood from Binghamton, NY will be among
the drivers competing in the 100 lap event. The father and son team
Dean and Tyler Rypkema from Owego, NY will also be in competition.
Joining the Race of Champions Modifieds will be a full program of
NASCAR Weekly Racing for the Chemung Speedrome Sunoco Modifieds
(Sportsman), Super Stocks, Four Cylinders and INEX Legends Cars.
Defending Chemung Speedrome Sunoco Modified Track Champion Jimmy
Zacharias from Chemung, NY is expected to be competing in both his
RoC Modified and weekly track Modified (Sportsman)
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4:45 p.m.
Practice begins at 4:45 p.m. with racing set for 6 p.m. The RoC
Modified 100 is scheduled to start no later than 9 p.m.
Adult grandstand admission is $22 with $2 off coupons available at
area vendor’s including: Dandy Mini-Mart’s, Gary’s U-Pull It,
French’s Auto Parts, 07 Racing Collectibles and many other outlets
in the area. Seniors 65 years and older are $18, Youth ages 11-16
are $10 with kids ages 6-10 only $5. All youngsters 5 years old and
younger will be admitted free of charge.
A small allotment of indoor climate controlled VIP seats are
available for $30 each. They can be reserved by phoning the RoC
