VALENTI MODIFIED RACING SERIES TO HEADLINE KING CADILLAC GMC NIGHT AT THOMPSON SPEEDWAY MOTORSPORTS PARK

The Valenti Modified Racing Series (VMRS) makes the first of two stops at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) on Thursday night, May 29th. Voted Speed 51’s Best Touring Series in back-to-back seasons, the VMRS will compete in the King Cadillac-GMC 75 as part of an action-packed, six division race program, including the Sunoco Modified, Late Model, Limited Sportsman, Mini Stock, Vintage Outlaw Divisions as well as a bicycle race for children.

Three different drivers have tasted victory in the VMRS this season. Defending TSMP Sunoco Modified Champion, “Kid Roc” Keith Rocco, kicked off the season with a dominating win at the Waterford Speedbowl. Huntingdon Valley, PA’s Rowan Pennink followed suit at Monadnock Speedway, grabbing the checkers on April 19th. Last time the Series was in competition, Richard Savary crossed the finish line first. It is Todd Szegedy, however, who is making the most of his new found relationship with Kevin Stuart, as he sits atop the championship point standings. Szegedy – who is yet to finish outside of the top 10 – holds a slim two-point margin over Pennink and Chris Pasteryak. All of these drivers are entered for Thursday’s event, as well as 30 others who will attempt to qualify for the 26-car starting field.

The Sunoco Modifieds will be busy Thursday, as they will be completing the remaining 17 laps of the feature from May 15, as well as a their regularly scheduled 30-lap main. Keith Rocco holds a two point lead over Woody Pitkat after his win at the Icebreaker, presented by Town Fair Tire. Ryan Preece sits just four points back in third, while Todd Ceravolo and Cam McDermott round out the top five.

Coming off of their 50-lap segment race, the Late Model Division will go 25 laps. Double points are on the line, and six-time champion Glenn Boss will look to extend his six point advantage over Rick Gentes. Chris Curtis, John Lowinski-Loh, and Jim Banfield, round out the top five in the standings. One name that bears mentioning is Keith Rocco, who won the first two segments of the segment race. The wins did not come easily, as Rocco battled Gentes side-by-side for several laps in the first and third segments.

Also with a double point night, the Limited Sportsman will engage in battle for 20 laps. Scott Sundeen enjoys a narrow four-point margin atop the point standings, just ahead of Mouse Douton. Already with a win this season, Corey Hutchings trails Sundeen by 24 points. Last year’s champion, Steve Kenneway, sits seventh in the standings after 3 events for the Limited Sportsman. Shawn Monahan, who dominated the races at the Icebreaker, presented by Town Faire Tire, is looking to pick up his third win in four tries this season.

The Mini Stock division will duel for 20 laps, as Steve Michalski looks to keep a hold of his lead in the standings. Michalski opened up the season with a win on Segment Saturday at the Icebreaker, presented by Town Fair Tire, and followed up with a second place finish behind Steve Dickey on Sunday. Jeff Moffat and Mike D. Viens sit second and third respectively, while Michael Viens and Leo Defevers hold on to the fourth and fifth spots.

As part of TSMP’s commitment to their fans, children 10 and under will be able to compete in a bicycle race on the front stretch. Children are asked to bring their tricycles or bicycles with training wheels to have the opportunity to earn prizes. There will also be children’s bicycle safety information on site. Don’t forget to bring your helmets!

King Cadillac GMC Night is also Salute to Armed Services Night. Any active duty U.S. Military and veterans will receive FREE Grandstand Admission with valid proof of service.
