You’ve seen it before, something is for sale, “make an
offer”. In other words, what’s it worth to you? The value is determined by
what it is worth to someone. Take a look in a pawn shop you’ll see what I
mean. What do you think Hope is worth? Greetings in the name of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hope is priceless. Hope can change the direction of people’s lives.
Hope can give people the encouragement and perseverance they need to get
through even the most difficult circumstances.
Race cars, parts and tools make the circuit. They change hands,
reused, rebuilt, with the hope that they will yield the final piece of the
victory puzzle. Racers will go to great lengths for that elusive piece that
makes their car better. What is it worth? It is worth whatever someone is
willing to pay. Given the right circumstances something can be of greater
value because of a greater need.
Another component of worth, in racing terms, is performance, more
horsepower, better performance, better handling, anything that can give you
an advantage is worth more than something that doesn’t. The world we live in
is based on performance. How we perform and how the parts perform determine
their worth.
Hope is so important to us. We want others to value us. One of our
failings is we seek that self worth, hope, from others instead of God. What
is our value to God? What are we worth to Him?
Romans 8:1-4, nlt; So now
there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed
you from the power of sin that leads to death.
The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful
nature.
So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the
bodies we sinners have.
And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his
Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied
for us,
who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
Did you know that our value to God is not
performance based? Did you know that our value to God never changes? God
values each one of us the same. He desires to have a personal relationship
with each one of us. That relationship is so valuable to Him that Jesus gave
His life so that our relationship with God could be restored. Jesus restored
our hope on the cross. Man has hope of a relationship with God because of
Christ.
What is hope worth? What does God offer us? David helps us see some
of those benefits.
Psalm 23, A
psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
Do you see the value hope
has in a relationship with God? He offers us; guidance, provision, rest,
refreshment, restoration, direction, protection during trial, discipline,
victory, abundant blessings, and eternal life. God wants each one of us to
experience the relationship He offers. He desires us to know the fulfillment
and security that comes from knowing Him. Life is worthless without the hope
that God provides.
The list is a great one, how much of it can we supply for
ourselves? None, you see, God offers us the things that we want out of life
and cannot provide for ourselves. We need to recognize our value in His
eyes. Read Psalm 23 this week, spend some time reflecting on the value of a
relationship with God. Know that it is available for the asking. Even when
we have strayed away God waits for us to return to Him. He provides
forgiveness and restores our soul. Here’s Hope, Christ died for you.
I encourage you to take God up on His offer, let Him show you what
one life is worth, your life. God Bless.
THOUGHTS FROM THE ROAD
INDOOR
RACES AT TRENTON - A new venue is on tap for the indoor racers this
weekend, The Battle of Trenton. I would love to be there, but I have some
other commitments that I have to fulfill. We will have our own TQ Midget
Chaplain, Bob Menschner, there to bring the invocation and reach out to the
racers.
THE RACER’S EXPO - Marlboro, MA is the place for The Racer’s
Expo this weekend. The Seymour Family continues to present this hard-core
racing opportunity for some of the local racers to get their final equipment
needs met for the upcoming season.
The show finishes up with a match race at F1 Boston. I will be in
the Design500/Lady Eagle entry. The competition is pretty stiff but I will
fall back on the Scripture the first shall be last and the last first. If I
end up in last place, I will really be in first!
I am looking forward to have a great event in support of all Bobby
and his family does for the racing community. If you have the time, stop on
by.
VOLUSIA, DAYTONA, NEW SMYRNA - The racing season gets
underway in the Sunshine State and we will be there. We have been able to
expand our reach during Speedweeks and I am happy to report we will conduct
four chapel services during our time in Florida; one at Bubba Raceway Park ,
Volusia, and New Smyrna on Sunday February 16, and one at Daytona on
February 18.
Rev. Steve Fowler will be with the WOO Dirt Late Models at Bubba
Raceway Park, Rev. Dan Petfield will be with the K&N Pro Series at New
Smyrna and I will be with the WOO Sprint Cars at Volusia with Ed Harkins of
Finish Line Chaplains. On Tuesday both Dan and I will be with the K&N and
Whelen Modified Tour at Daytona.
God has provided the personnel and opportunities to proclaim the
Good News. If you are in the area plan to stop by and take in one of the
services.
