If
this weekend’s just completed practice sessions in
preparation for the Thanksgiving weekend Turkey
Derby are any indication, fields in all divisions
should be filled with talented racers and fast race
cars for the season ending classic. Turkey Derby is
a three-day stock car racing festival held at Wall
Stadium Speedway, here, during the daylight hours on
Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.
The touring Modified division alone saw several top
names on hand for pre-race practice. Leading the way
for testing were former Turkey Derby champions Jimmy
Blewett and Jamie Tomaino, both of Howell, who
seemed to be fast right out of their trailers.
Another former Turkey Derby winner, Rowan Pennink,
was also fast during the weekend practice sessions,
as were standouts Les Hinckley from New Hampshire,
Pennsylvania hot shoe Zane Zeiner and local favorite
Tim Arre of Toms River.
Like the touring Modified division, all of the other
divisions that will compete during Turkey Derby were
well represented during the weekend’s testing
sessions.
Turkey Derby XXXIX is a three-day Thanksgiving
racing tradition set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
(November 23, 24 and 25) during the daylight hours.
On November 23, practice will start at 8:30 a.m.,
while qualifying will start at 12:30 p.m. and
feature racing will begin at approximately 2:15 p.m.
On November 24, practice will start at 8:30 a.m.,
with qualifying set for 11:00 a.m. and feature
racing set for approximately 1:00 p.m. On Sunday,
November 25, practice will start at 11:00 a.m. with
main event action set for 1:00 p.m.
Pit gates will open at 6:30 a.m., with grandstand
seating opening at 9:30 a.m. on both Friday and
Saturday. On Sunday pit gates will open at 10:00
a.m. with grandstand seating opening at noon.
Qualifying is also set for noon with the first main
event set for the green flag at 1:00 p.m.
Friday main event action will feature the paved
track Sportsman cars, the Late Models, the Legend
Cars, the Truck Series, the 4 Cylinder cars and the
Factory Stocks. On Saturday, the Touring Modifieds,
Wall Modifieds, dirt Modified/Sportsman, TQ Midgets
and Street Stocks will all see main event action. On
Sunday, the Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinder Cars
return for a second main event each, while the S-10
Trucks and Powder Puff racers also see feature race
action. Sunday will be topped off by a Demolition
Derby.
Of special interest will be an appearance by Wall
Stadium favorites Ray Evernham and Wally Dallenbach,
as they debut the completely restored No. XL-1
Modified stock car on Saturday. Of importance to the
Jersey Shore community, which was stricken by
Hurricane Sandy just a few weeks ago, will be a
collection of money and gift cards for the area’s
relief fund. Program Dynamics President Steve
Barrick recently announced that his publishing
company will donate $1 from every Wall Revue program
magazine sold during the weekend to the effort.
Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall
Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State
Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The
speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400, while
CKMotorsports@aol.com is the track’s email
address. More information is also available at
