PREECE LEADS
MODIFIED MANIAC TRIPLE CROWN STANDINGS

Ryan Preece of Berlin, Conn., leads the race for the "$1,500 Modified Maniac Triple Crown Series" after winning Saturday's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at the Monadnock Speedway. The driver earning the lowest score at three selected quarter-mile track special events will earn the winner take all prize.

The first four finishers across the line at Monadnock all plan on competing in the remaining two events, on June 16 at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., and on July 28 at the Riverhead Raceway, so the race for the extra $1,500 will likely come down to the final laps of that WMT Buzz Chew Chevy-Cadillac Night 200 at Riverhead in July.

Next up for Preece, Doug Coby, Todd Szegedy and Justin Bonsignore is the Exeter Decorating SBM 125 Star Modified Open, which will carry a purse of more than $35,000. While Preece has raced at Star on three occasions in his young career, Coby has only been there once, and for Szegedy and Bonsignore, the June 16 event will mark their first-ever laps around the Epping oval.

""I'm very excited for that race, and grateful to Star Speedway for putting on this show," Preece stated after his Monadnock win. "It means a lot for us Modified racers and owners.

"For my family especially, to have these races that pay really well and they put up a lot of lap money. It's a whole Modified community deal with drivers from different tours and weekly venues racing together."

The June 16 event at Star is a one day show featuring a full field of Modifieds vying for the expected winner's share of more than $7,000. Other drivers already entered for this event include: Les Hinckley, Dwight Jarvis, Chris and Charlie Pasteryak and Max Zachem from the Modified Racing Series. Star Track Champion Josh Cantara and Mike Douglas Jr., head the list of weekly racers, while Matt Hirschman will represent the race of Champions Tour.

Mike Stefanik and the Hillbilly Racing 79 are among the early entries from the NASCAR WMT, with more expected by the midnight June 9 pre-entry deadline.
