MCKENNEDY, BARRY TO BE CROWNED
VMRS CHAMPIONS SATURDAY |
Jon
McKennedy, of E. Chelmsford, MA., will officially be crowned series champion
this Saturday night, December 8, when the Valenti Modified Racing Series
presents it’s 9th annual awards banquet at the Clarion Conference Center, in
W. Springfield, MA. McKennedy joins Kirk Alexander as three-time series
champion.
Three wins and strong finishes kept the Art Barry, of Preston, Ct., owned
modified in the hunt for the title as they battled with Rowan Pennink, of
Huntingdon Valley, PA., for the top honor. The 2012 championship is
McKennedy’s third in four years. He took home the big trophy in 2009 and
2010.
For car owner Barry, the championship is his first with the VMRS. Art has
campaigned racecars for over 50 years, has been a championship car owner
under the NASCAR banner and is also a New York State Stock Car Racing Fall
of Fame member, and New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame member. The
McKennedy-Barry combo won races this past season at Waterford, (CT).,
Monadnock, (NH) and Stafford (CT).
The series top 15 drivers and car owners will receive awards and the 2012
special recognition awards will also be presented. The Spafco Most Improved
Driver, Mountainside Graphix Rookie of the Year, Mechanic of the Year,
Sportsmanship, Dedication To Racing, and Tough Luck presentations will be
made.
The prestigious ‘7-11’ award, presented annually by Hall of Fame driver Bob
Polverari, will go to the driver that represents modified racing in a
professional manner on and off the race track.
Doors open at 4:30 PM Saturday. |
