POSTPONES WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR AT THOMPSON
Season Finale To Now Run On Oct. 25 |
Due to an ominous forecast that includes the possibility of rain and snow in
the area throughout the weekend, NASCAR officials and Thompson International
Speedway have decided to postpone the World Series of Speedway Racing
presented by Xtra Mart, the season finale for the NASCAR Whelen Modified
Tour.
Events for the World Series were scheduled for this weekend, Oct.
16-18, with the Whelen Modified Tour’s 150-lap race slated for Sunday, Oct.
18. The event has now been pushed back one week to Oct. 23-25. The same
schedule for the race weekend will remain in tact, with the Whelen Modified
Tour to now race on Sunday, Oct. 25.
The 2009 season finale for the Whelen Modified Tour will feature
the closest championship race in eight years as Donny Lia leads Ryan Preece
by just 26 points. Lia will be contending for his second championship in the
last three years while Preece will look for his first. Defending champion
Ted Christopher is 109 points back in third place.
The Whelen Modified Tour will practice and qualify at Thompson on
Saturday, Oct. 24 and the final green flag of the season is set to drop on
Sunday, Oct. 25 at approximately 3:30 p.m.
