As life goes through its cycles there comes a time when we need to rebuild.
As time passes our effort to build and maintain can wane. What was special
is no more. We need to rebuild. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.
We've seen the changes all around us, racetracks building up and tearing
down. Daytona, Charlotte, Thompson, Waterford, Stafford, the list goes on.
Both local and national tracks do not sit around and hope things change.
They change and make adjustments. They try to meet the changing needs of
their audience. Without such change they would die.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8;
For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
We cannot sit and rest on our accomplishments
too long before the need to maintain them. Complacency comes disguised as a
desire to want things to stay the same. Try it and see how much effort it
takes to not change anything.
Change is a component of living life to the fullest. One way or the other
we will exert the effort to keep things the way they are or to develop
things into what they could be. If no effort is put forth then decay and
destruction rule. If our only effort is to maintain the status quo we will
be left behind. The journey in life isn't about going around in circles, it
is about walking down the road that leads to life, abundant and free.
Maintenance is required and in its absence rebuilding must take place.
Think about the relationships we have with others. They are not stagnant,
they either grow deeper or estranged. The direction they move has everything
to do with the effort put forth. No effort leads to estrangement. There is
no status quo, relationships are alive and need to be nurtured. If we fail
on that account the effort must then be focused on rebuilding.
I had a great talk with Tony Hirschman at the Race of Champions this past
weekend in Qswego. Many things came together as we talked about the previous
iterations of the event and the desire to rebuild it and restore its past
glory.
As we stood on the tailgate of the trailer and looked over some of the
vintage Modifieds that were staged for hot laps we reminisced about the old
days. Tony shared he was the first to own a Troyer chassis in PA. How he
first had a used one and then purchased a new one in the late seventies. He
talked about his first ROC at Pocono. He finished third and at the end of
250 laps couldn’t even hold his head up.
“We didn’t have all the seat support around our heads that they do now.”
Tony said.
Ninety cars showed up that day, fifty started the race. That means forty
cars went home! Oh to have forty cars show up for an event today. Tony
shared this was truly a race of champions, the Jersey Boys, the LI guys, the
North East contingent. If you were a track champion you came and brought
your posse with you. It was a race to see who the best of the best was.
Oh to have the glory days back! Can we ever get there again?
It takes time and effort. First of all someone has to have the vision to
rebuild. Then the support needs to come. No one can rebuild and maintain
without support. Therein lies the risk we refuse to take. We hope things
will go on the way they were. We just want to coast for a while. Hoping we
don't have to extend too much effort.
That's a lie that will lead us to destruction. Take a look around and you
can see signs of complacency. The destruction that takes place when the
effort to maintain and build isn't put forth. These are the dangers we fail
to see until it's too late.
John 10:10; The
thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them
a rich and satisfying life.
There is a thief who wants to rob us of the Joy
and Peace God offers. This thief wants to rob, kill and destroy the thing
that is worth the most in our lives. Will we sit idly by and let him? Maybe
it's time to get up and do something. Put some effort into rebuilding and
restoring the things we used to have. Support those who making the effort to
clean up years of complacency and restore things; something that will
benefit us all.
Maybe we need to take our life in a different direction. Build that one
relationship that will make all the difference in this world and the next.
The time is now, there is work to be done. When all is said and done will we
let the thief rob us of everything? Will we refuse to rebuild what we have
come to cherish? Think about that. Until next time, remember God loves you
