   LOOKING BACK A BIT: 03/09/18 with Phil Smith
Thirty five years ago in 1978, the NASCAR Modifieds had an early season event at Hickory, North Carolina. Geoff Bodine took the win over Richie Evans, Jerry Cook, Wayne Anderson, Gary Cretty, Joe Thurman and Fred Harbach.
Twenty years ago in 1998, Jim Spencer took the lead with 25 laps to go and went on to win the Busch Grandnational 300 at Las Vegas. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second. Randy Lajoie provided some excitement on the last lap when he flipped. Mark Martin was the Winston Cup winner.
Fifteen years ago in 2003 the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series racing teams headed for Las Vegas. Because of intermittent rain qualifying for both events were run at night....Full Story
   THOUGHTS? by Rev. Don Rivers
As we move along in our study we find a familiar theme, it is what is in your heart that matters. Our outward actions can say one thing, our words can say another, but it is our heart that reveals the truth. What is in your heart? Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We have all been in the situation that we couldn’t say what we really thought. Whether it is an interview at the track or an encounter with fans, most times we need to measure what we say and take into account who is listening. I say this to illustrate that we don’t always reveal what is in our heart. Jesus continued his teaching in the Sermon on the Mount with these words;
Mathew 5:27-30, "You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery....Full Story

   CHAMP TRAIL: 03/06/18 by Phil Smith
With Florida speedweeks in the rear view mirror it’s time to look ahead to the 2018 Whelen Modified Tour Series opener in Myrtle Beach, SC on March 17, a little over a week away. Timmy Solomito is the defending race winner. Three weeks after Myrtle Beach will see the gates swing open for the 2018 edition of the Thompson Motorsports Park Speedway Icebreaker. It looks like Ryan Preece will miss the Myrtle Beach event as he will be in Fontana, California where he will drive a Joe Gibbs entry in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event. Jimmy Blewett will be driving the Eddie Partridge entry at Myrtle Beach. In some welcome and important news, the New London-Waterford Speedbowl has announced that the proposed changes to the Waterford town Noise Ordinance....Full Story

   GETTING THINGS RIGHT by Rev. Don Rivers
What makes a person good? How do we determine who is good? We observe. We look at their actions. We listen to what they say. We look at how they influence those around them. Are we good? Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This week we dig a little deeper in the passage we have been studying. Here it is to refresh our memories;
Matthew 5:21-26, "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, `Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, `Raca, ' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, `You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. "Therefore, if you..."....Full Story

In Loving Memory Of Howie

   HOWARD "HOWIE" ARTHUR HODGE prepared by Polly Reid
Saturday afternoon on January 28, 2017, Howard ‘Howie’ Arthur Hodge passed away at the St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Surrounded by family at the time of his passing, Howard was 77 years old.
Born on August 31, 1939 at the Hartford Hospital, Howard was the second of three children to Dorothy (Hoadley) and Leon Hodge.
His first few years were spent in Glastonbury, CT before the Hodge family moved to East Hartford where Howard went to school graduating from the East Hartford High School in 1957.
Growing up, Howard had a paper route for ‘quite a few years’. The pile of papers would be left on the front lawn and Howard would be responsible for folding them, putting them in the big cloth bag then ride around the neighborhood delivering the Hartford Times. His sister Lois fondly remembers his bicycle that ‘he fixed up until it was like a motorcycle’ complete with a windshield, skirts....Full Story
